Elevating Training Excellence: KF’s New Boeing 737 Simulator
December 11, 2024
We’re proud to announce that KF Aerospace is now home to a brand-new Flightdeck Solutions Boeing 737 Simulator!
The simulator is a Boeing 737 Max (which can also be used in an NG configuration), and it will allow us to provide state-of-the-art training in-house at KF. It will be used primarily to train AME-Ms to conduct post-maintenance engine runs (a series of procedures that verify all systems are functional and correct any potential failures). Previously, we had to send AMEs to Calgary for the training – but now we can do it in house in YLW!
Check out some pics of the set up/installation:
By having a simulator available onsite, we’ll be able to save both time and money associated with outsourcing simulator training. We’re excited to leverage this technology to make our training process much more efficient and cost-effective.
“This simulator is a very important addition to our training department, providing an excellent opportunity to for us to leverage technology for training. The time and cost savings it offers will have a significant positive impact on KF as a whole,” says Richard Mrazek, KF’s Director of Flight Operations.
The simulator will emulate everything within a real aircraft, allowing people to make errors and practice navigating emergencies (there are 12-15 different ‘faults’ or errors that we can throw at them!) without the risk of damaging a customer’s aircraft. Employees will be able to get simulator requirements for type course and engine run qualifications on individual aircraft.
“The chances of something going wrong post maintenance are much higher, so proper training is crucial. Sending people to outside simulators was not only expensive, but difficult to schedule. Having our own simulator will ensure technicians get timely training that is uniquely tailored to KF,” says Adam Pask, KF’s ATO Supervisor.
What other benefits does this simulator bring to KF?
-
Advancing KF as an industry leader in training: KF is proud to be a Transport Canada Approved Training Organization (ATO) to provide maintenance training and assessments. The on-the-job training and accreditations offered at KF are a big perk of working here, and we’re excited to stay on the cutting edge of technology to provide the best training possible for our employees.
-
Leveraging In-house technology and innovation: Other MROs typically don’t have in-house simulators! Having the sim available onsite for employees allows them to learn more effectively by building muscle memory. It’s also great to have the simulator available for anyone who hasn’t completed an engine run in a while and wants to reacquaint themselves, or for apprentices to practice working inside a cockpit.
-
Offers diverse benefits: It’s not just for engine runs – the simulator can also be used to train employees on safety procedures and lockout procedures, and it has a full suite of avionics.
-
It’s fun! Of course, another great benefit of the simulator is learning to fly!
